| | Introduction: | Isoprostanes are prostaglandin-like compounds that are produced upon peroxidation of lipoproteins. 8-epi-prostaglandin F2a (8-EPI) has been shown to be a potent vasoconstrictor in rat kidneys and rabbit lungs. Isoprostanes may play a role in atherogenesis. Measurement of isoprostane concentrations may be helpful in assessment of oxidative stress, hepatorenal syndrome, rheumatoid arthritis, atherosclerosis, and carcinogenesis.
